Getting the hotel sleep experience at home with Simba

After years of travelling the country and having the absolute privilege of staying in countless hotels, hostels, Airbnbs and more for both work and leisure, itโ€™s only now, in my thirties, that Iโ€™ve realised one of the biggest joys in all of those experiences is simply knowing Iโ€™ll get a great nightโ€™s sleep at the end of the day.

Of course, exploring new towns and cities is always a pleasure, but if Iโ€™m being honest, the simple things matter just as much. A really comfortable bed, proper pillows, fresh beddingโ€ฆ theyโ€™re always right up there on the list.

And I donโ€™t know about you, but Iโ€™ve lost count of the times Iโ€™ve stripped a bed to check the labels, searched everything online, read all the reviews, only to come home to my poor, tired mattress with its dips and hard spots.

But letโ€™s be honest. At my age, Iโ€™m too old to be putting up with an uncomfortable nightโ€™s sleep. And let me be clear, Iโ€™m not old, not by any means (especially not to anyone who lived through the millennium. Y2K is still cool, right?). But still, I am too old to accept a terrible nightโ€™s sleep.

There are certain things you start valuing more as you get older, and your evening routine, whether itโ€™s your skincare, your bedding or the bed itself, really does feel like an investment you deserve.

So after my last trip away, I finally thought: enough is enough. Itโ€™s time to buy a new mattress (and a new bed frame, although that might take me a bit longer). I went for the Simba Hybrid mattress in a king size.

This was honestly a revelation because I, perhaps naively and perhaps showing just how little I had invested in myself before now, thought mattresses were simply soft, medium or firm. Maybe memory foam. Maybe springs. Hybrid if youโ€™re feeling fancy. And that was about as far as my knowledge went. I suspect a lot of you are in the same boat.

What really pushed me towards the Simba Hybrid was just how many people were raving about it. With nearly 130,000 reviews and a 4.8 rating, Simba feels like a brand you can trust. So many people mentioned that their sleep had genuinely improved and that those annoying back and hip aches had eased. A lot of people said the same thing, it feels supportive in all the right places, but still soft and comfortable to lie on.

The comments about couples stood out too. So many people mentioned the lack of motion transfer, which basically means youโ€™re not bouncing around every time your partner rolls over. This seems to be a bit of a game changer and, honestly, might just save a life because let me tell you, this one has been wearing me down.

Temperature control came up again and again as well. Loads of people said it kept them comfortable all night without overheating. Iโ€™m a cold girl through and through, but as much as I feel the cold, I can only imagine how awful it is if you run warm at night.

And then the practical bits mattered too. Quick delivery (it arrived in 48 hours) and a super easy setup. The delivery team basically told me to stand back, properly stand back, before releasing it from the packaging.

All of that combined made me feel like Iโ€™d made the right choice.

I gave it a few hours to settle once it was opened, as tempting as it was to jump straight on it, and I just knew this was going to help with the shoulder aches I always get as a side sleeper. I tend to hunch and put a lot of pressure on one shoulder in particular.

Now for the part most people really want to know. Has it actually improved my sleep? Honestly, yes. Iโ€™ve been sleeping noticeably deeper and waking up far fewer times during the night.

Iโ€™ve also been feeling genuinely more refreshed in the mornings, which I half expected from a mattress upgrade, but I didnโ€™t realise just how much it would help.

And then thereโ€™s the everyday stuff. After a long day out, climbing into my new bed feels like an actual treat, not just part of the routine. Weekend lie-ins have become dangerous because itโ€™s just so comfortable, although the weather outside is definitely playing its part too.

For practicality, Iโ€™m still looking for a new bed frame, but this mattress works fine with my current one. My bedding fits nicely over it and the whole bed just looks more put together. It doesnโ€™t look quite so sorry for itself.

And when I do eventually buy a new frame, I know this mattress is going to look just as good as those hotel beds, maybe even better.

Price wise, itโ€™s definitely an investment, but I get why everyone says itโ€™s worth it. And when youโ€™re spending 8+ hours in bed every day, you really do deserve to invest in your own comfort. You feel more refreshed, more energised and honestly just in a better mood after a proper nightโ€™s sleep.

Iโ€™d say this mattress is great if you like that soft-but-supportive feel. It has structure, so youโ€™re not going to melt into it, but you do feel cushioned. I think itโ€™s ideal if youโ€™re a light sleeper or if you share a bed and donโ€™t want to feel every little movement beside you.

If anything, I just wish Iโ€™d upgraded sooner. Thatโ€™s genuinely my only complaint. It took me a couple of nights to adjust because it was such a difference from my old mattress, but once I settled into it, I loved it.
